September 11: Videos and Pictures Of 9/11 World Trade Centre

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – A Rhode Island couple has discovered a memorial thousands of miles away to the firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11.

John and Joan McConaghy had watched in frustration as politics got in the way of a memorial at ground zero. John, a retired Pawtucket firefighter, lost 20 friends in the attacks.

This summer, John and Joan discovered a memorial to the firefighters who died on 9/11. It is located in Kinsale, Ireland, which is Newport’s sister city.

A New York City nurse brought the Ringfinnan Garden of Remembrance to life. It has 343 trees, one in honor of each fallen firefighter.

Joan has painted pictures of their journey to the garden, and plans to put them on display at the Providence Art Club in October.
