Sinhagad Ready to Get a Face Lift

Sinhagad which stands as a testimony to the valor of the great Maratha warriors and proclaims the grandeur and the glory of the Maratha Empire is all set to get a face-lift.

Sinhagad Ready to Get a Face LiftThe Government of Maharashtra has declared the year 2011 as the Tourism Year and many tourist attractions in the state are all set for a revamp. Sinhagad which is of course one of the important tourist places in Maharashtra, too, is to be refurbished under this project.

The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is to undertake thee revamping of the fort pretty soon. Handsome grant has been sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism and this has given way to the development activities at various tourist destinations, weekend getaways and pilgrimage centres in and around Pune.

An MTDC official in a press conference on Monday said, "Renovation of Sinhagad is well on the agenda. It is a big step taken towards developing tourism within the area and 11 schemes have been constituted in the plan."

The MTDC has already started the renovations of the two suites in the forest department's guesthouse. The MTDC official said, "Construction of a meditation centre for tourists and trekkers is also underway.

Construction of pathways, railings and signages is already complete. Building a canteen and a parking lot is also on the cards.
There has been some delay in securing sanction for building the canteen and parking area, as the land belongs to the forest department."

The proposal of the renovation of the Sinhagad fort was approved in 2005 and the actual work began in the year 2008. The official added, "The Union Government's Touri [...]
