How to add extensions in OpenOffice.org
OpenOffice.org is the free replacement for Microsoft Office. The extension manager allows you to extend the capabilities of OpenOffice.org sometimes known as OOo
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
Things You'll Need:
· Copy of OpenOffice.org installed on your computer.
· Operating system can be Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux.
· Working connection to the Internet
1. Step 1
Yo begin open an application in OpenOffice.org, it doesn't matter which one the process is the same throughout. For the purpose of this "eHowTo" we will use Writer which is accessed by clicking on Text Document.
2. Step 2
Accessing Extension Manager
Next click on Tools located at the top and then click on Extension Manager which is in the bottom panel.
3. Step 3
At this point you have one of two choices. Either click on the link at the bottom... get more extensions here, or click on the Add button, also located on the bottom. Now comes the tricky part if you click on the add button then the extension will have already been down loaded onto your computer. I'll cover that process in another article, for the moment however we are focusing on the easier method of download and installing extension via the Internet.
4. Step 4
After "clicking on get more extensions here..." a copy of your favorite internet web browser will open at http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/getmore?cid=920794 from here search the list of available extensions. To show you the process I am going to add the first available extension which today is the Alpha Blocks Clip art Gallery theme, a collection of images of kids blocks.
Begin by clicking on "Yep you guess it "Click here for more information" Takes you the extension web page And right in the middle is a big button that says "GET IT" Go ahead and click on it.
5. Step 5
If you've hung in so far there are just a couple of more steps. All the hard ones are done.
After clicking on "GET IT" button a popup window which gives you choice of how you want to handle the file.
Select Open with OpenOffice.org
6. Step 6
Now the party begins. Several windows open at the same time.
1. The download manager of your browser
2. A notice that you are about to install the extension. "Special Note" Some extension may present you with am EULA (after reading proceed with install)
Click Ok to complete the install.
7. Step 7
Finally all done. Your extension has been nicely placed where it needs to be and is accessible for your use. Disclaimer YMMV (Your Mileage May Very)
