Viruses are a big problem among PC users today. Certain types of software, such as firewalls, are designed to prevent viruses and other malware from infecting your computer. However, some of this software can cost over $100 at a computer or electronics store. Here's how to prevent PC viruses for free.

There are a few solutions that help prevent PC viruses for free. From my experience, I will list the most reliable free solutions.

2.      Step 2

Use Zone Alarm Free for an excellent free firewall

The first piece of software you need to prevent PC viruses for free is a firewall. Programs such as Norton Antivirus will do the same things as free software, but will cost you money. The best free firewall, in my experience, is Zone Alarm Free Firewall (see the "Resources" section below). Zone Alarm will essentially screen every program on your computer that accesses the internet and see if it is a virus. This is an excellent way to prevent PC viruses for free!

3.      Step 3

Download AVG Virus

Another thing you should get (for free, of course) is an anti-virus program. The best free anti-virus software is AVG Free (see "Resources" for a download link). This program gives regular updates and catches any viruses that make their way onto your PC. If a virus somehow manages to get onto your computer, then daily scans of your hard drive should catch the virus. Your computer should now be able to prevent PC viruses for free!
